In 2020, Sarah Boone called 911 to report that her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., had stopped breathing. However, when authorities arrived, they discovered that Torres was already dead, and Boone had allegedly zipped his body in a suitcase. The events that led to Torres’ death and Boone’s subsequent arrest have been the subject of much controversy, sparking debates regarding domestic violence. But what events led to Torres’ death and Boone’s conviction?

On  January 14, 2016,38 -year -old sarah  and  her young son  arranged a photo for social media In  the image , her son is  seen inside  a partial zipped black suitcase beside an image of the same  suitcase zippered shut. The picture ,intended in jest , suggests the child was inside  the luggage.

After the image was posted to facebook, it triggered an investigation by child  protective services. the matter was dropped after it was dtermined the child conceived of and wanted  to to the stunt.

In a bizarre coincidence, a second incident involving  sarah and an allegeded suitcase prank four years  later would devastate  a family in Pensylvania and stun the  community of Winter Park ,florida.

44 -year -old sarah booner was born sarah paulson on October 10 , 1977 . she was raised in Orlando ,florida .

she attended Edgewater High school.and claimed she  excelled in all subjects.  her last gainful employment was 2018

Sometime  around 2004 , she married brian bonne , and they  had a son.

The boones lives together in Orlando.

Allthough brian recently claimed  sarah could get aggressive at times, especially when drinking- there is no documented history  of violent offenses during or before  the marriage.

She did have a few traffic violations .

After around  12 to 13 years of marriage, her husband filed for divorce on November 30th, 2017

According to  Brian ,one of  the main reasons  was her increasing use of alcohol; in particular, frequent trips to bars, especially on weeknights .

The  divorce was finalized  in August 2018 .

sarah and brian shared costudy of their son and  a parenting agreement.

sarah was to care  for  him every monday and tuesday and  alternate fridays through sundays

The pair remained civil.

Occasionally ,when sarah needed money, he would send his son´s mother ” a few  dollars” from time to time.

Following the divorce , sarah moved  to  a nearby apartment , single and  unemployed sarah relied primarly on alimony payments to ssustain herself  financially .

Unfortunately, her dirinking habits continued, and multiple people close to her characterized it as progressively worsening.

It was under these  circunstonaces that she met 42- year – old Jorge Torres Jr.

Jorge Torres  Jr. hailed from Philadelphia, pennsylvania .

He  spent some time in Clinton , Massachusetts , befre relocating to Orlando.

Jorge was divorced  and had three children.

According to his facebook  page, his last  known employment was  at a  local Ace Hardware store.

Unfortunately for Jorge , the store closed, and he became unemployed.

He had an unstable work history prior to the store´s closure.

Jorge enjoyed skteching and listening to music.

He was a  fan of artists such as  Bad Buinny, Lil Wayne ,and Maroon 5.

In fact, neighbors would often complain about the loud  music coming from his apartment.

As of 2020 , Jorge was working  to overcome unemployment, pressure from his ex-wife to provide  much  – needed financial support for their children , and chronicle alcohol abuse.

In A sworn  statement , one of Jorge´s  brothers confirmed that it was well-known  Jorge  had a long-standing problem with  alcohol.

Jorge came from a large , close-knit family that had previously tried to get him help.

The following account is based on public records , court documents, police reports and law enforcement interviews  with, friends ,family neighbors

Sarah Boone and Jorge T orres met at  Local bar and   began dating in January 2017.

Their relationship developed Quickly

They moved in together in just  under three months, and jorge was added to the apartment lease.

They lived with sarah´s son in the Tealwood Parke Apartments on Frantz Court in Winter park, Florida.

It was a 910 square -foot,two -bedroom, two bath, multi-level townhome.

sarah paid most of the bills  , and jorge chipped in during periods of employment.

For what it´s worth ,although  sarah and jorge   frequently posted on social  media, they never publish images of themselves  as a couple on their respective social media pages.

With yjsy dsif , many people described their relationship as  rocky, at best.

Altecations and frequent alcohol consumption were observed by many.

In their time together , sarah  and Jorge  demonstraded a  clear self-destructive behavioral pattern.

It would start with  alcohol use, followed by a verbal dispute, escalation to pysical violance, and , ultimately, police  encounters.

Arrest-usually of Jorge – would always befollowed by Jorge being bailed out  by Sarah, and the cycle would repeat.

Two noteworthy items from interviews were that Jorge would often be seen playing outside with sarah´s son. and the two had a good relationship.

Also noted were  multiple people  mentioning , without being prompted, that sarah appeared to  be afreaid of Jorge.

Mostly ,however there were accounts of problems with alcohol and violance.

On  one occasion in the summer of 2019, sarah´s neighnor, whom she did not know well, said he was  suprised to wake one morning toi find sarah asleep on the cement floor of his apartment padio.

The neighbor added he mostly tried  to avoid her, and in his opinion , she and Jorge appeared   to have an abusive relationship.

The Tealwood property manager  was interviewed and she said  she had received between 20 to 30  complaints about the pair, including thudding sounds, baning on doors, and loud music at all hours.

In addition she has witnessed them s taggering  and highly intoxicated as early as  9.AM.

She said  she onece saw sara wandering the grounds , drunk an inappropriately dressed.

The property manager approached her and said ” we need to talk when you are sober”

When they spoke ,the property manager  threatened to evict them if problem contiuned.

She was unaware  of any issues after that, so she assumed things had improved.

The property manager also describes sarah as assertive.

she explained an incident where sarah claimed another tenant, who knew jorge from philly, was aggressive and inappropriate with her.

she said, ” he was trying to push himself on me.”

The property manager said she was  suprised wen sarah was confronted by the tenant and his girlfriend.  the girlfriend was significantly bigger  than sarah.

She had a large family who occupied  four units  in the apartment complex.

she also had a reputation for being intimidating

sara, although outsized and outnumbered ,refused to back  down.

Asked directly by the girlfriend if her allegations were true, she said without  hesitation,

” yes, he sure did.”

by  contrast some neighbors referred  to sarah as ” nice, comforting, and talkative.”

On October 20, 2017 , jorge made a public post on his facebook page.

stating he was in a relationship. five days after , he posted;

Just nine  months later ,they wouild experience their foirst documented police encounter.

On july 25, 2018 , sarah called  911  to report that Jorge  kicked her in the eye.

An officer arrived at the apartment minutes later.

According to the arrest  affidavit, she and Jorge were at a  bar. when she asked an inknown male for a cigarette.

Jorge became uset over it and left the bar.

They went back home, and a verbal altercation ensued.

sarah told police  she was  dragged  upstairs by jorge and kicked in the right  eye.

she refused medical treatment. The officer then spoke t with jorge.

He stsated they were arguing when he decided to walk upstairs to avoid sarah.

That´s when she grabbed him by the throat using both of her hands.

Jorge claims he was having difficult breathing and began to kick to get her  to stop.

Jorge said he believed he would have been unconscious if he had not gotten sarah off him.

Jorge also refused medical care.

Deputies stated they couldn´t tell who the primary aggressor was,so jorge was charged with battery , and sarah was charged with battery by strangulation.

Both posted bond and the case was dropped after sarah and jorge refused to write statements against  the other.

A little less then a year later,On june 15 , 2019 , police returned to sarah  and jorge´s residence.

Sarah  called 911  and again claimed  jorge became angry with her for talking to another man.

she said  jorge  struck her n her head, face .legs, and arms while saying! you´re  going toi die.”

The investigator noted sarah  had a red lump on the side of ther face and scratches on her neck.

she refused  medical treatment but filled out a “domestic violence worksheet” and said , this time, she was willing to  testify.

Jorge denied hitting sarah but was arrested for battery and booked into jail.

As promised , sarah testified in court.

Jorge was conditionally released and  ordered to avoid consuming alcohol or drugs,

have” no hostile contact with sarah” and “maintain a separate residence.”

Three days later , sarah contacted the police again.

This time  she complained  jorge was using her credit cards  without her consent.

but , after speaking with officers , she  declined to press charges.

At this point  ,the relationships trajectory had clearly changed, and there was an increased willingness , at least on the part o sarah, to involve the police.

In August 2019 , an officer visited the apartment for another complaint of assault.

sarah called 911  and claimed that she was asleep in her bedroom ,when she was suddenly assulted by jorge.

He was in  rage and was screaming. He punched her in the neck and pulled her hair.

Despite calling the police for help, she said she would not testify against  jorge.

The officer obseved an  old bruise on her right eye. when asked about it, she said it was from three days earlier.

Sarah  also declared ” i am fed up with being hit.”

Despite a temporary protection order against jorge, there was yet another assult complaint on september 4th ,2019.

The assault led  to Jorge´s arrest. The case was closed weeks later, and the couple  end´s  up living together again .

there was a relative period of peace  until February 2020.  unfortunately, it would prove  to be the calm  before  the storm

sarah´s next-door  neighbor, whose unit shares a wall with hers.

stated  that sometime between  10:30 to 11 PM  on february 23 rd,  he heard ” a very loud crashing sound” coming from sarah´s apartment

It was “as if something had fallen down the stairs.”

He said it was not unsual to hear an occasional thud coming  from that unit, but the crashing sound was far different than anything heard before.

” I felt the wall shake as  the sound  happened ,” he said.

According to sarah  ,on the evening of february 23 rd…

…..she and jorge  were consuming alcohol….

 …..and playing  games …..

…..such as hide-and – seek .

she sad they both thougt it would be funny if jorge  climbed into a suitcase.so he did , and she zipped the bad closed.

She states she then went upstairs to go  to bed and passed out .

sarah  claims she woke up the following morning around 11 AM, to her cellphone  ringing multiple times .

In a sworn stsatement by  her ex-husband, he said he called her numerous times that moning from 11: 25 .am.  as it was her  day to pick up their son.

Brian called  at 11:25, twice at 12:21 , and again  at 12 :49.

she answered on the last call and informed him she found jorge dead  in the suitcase.

Brian said she was “freaking out” and asked him to come over, but he urged her to call 911 instead. call  records shows that before she called the police, she called brian back to ensure he was on his way.finally , at around 1 PM , sarah called 911.

Officer: you can´t  go back inside.what´s going on ?who is he to you?boyfriend?

sarah: yes . for like three and a half years.

officer: what happened?

sarah: he and i  were we drank last night . we had a….like he and i were putting  a puzzle together.literally . just a bottle of wine.

officer:okay.

sarah: we were playing  hide and seek last night! i fell asleep!so, i dont know if he had a heart attack..i dont know what happened.

sarah: i tried giving  him CPR .

officer: when did you do CPR?

sarah: this morning when i found him.

officer: before you called?

 sarah: yes!

officer: it´s one o´clock right now.

sarah i tried – i was awake , but i actually got out of the bed at like 12:30ish. whatever, so i came downstairs and i was like, “oh ,fuck , he´s in the suitcase still!

sarah: that´s when i found him , and i took him out , i tried doing  CPR.

sarah  boone was arrested  on charges of second -degree murder. And  held without bail.

she was then escorted out of the building and transported to a booking facility.

sarah  boone is set to appear before judge for a pre -trial conference on january 17, 2023. According to  cour officials the trial is scheduled to beging on monday ,january 30th. it was expected to start in early 2022 but was rescheduled for november 2022. before being pushed back.

On December 19 , 2022 , boone´s most  recent  court -appointed attorney ,frank bankowitz, filed a motion to withdraw  as  counsel.

He stated he felt  he could no longer provide effective counsel to sarah, due to irreconcilable differences.  had the motion been granted,he would have become the sixth  attorney to withdraw from sarah´s  case, albeit for various reasons , including legitimate conflicts of interest.

For example, one public defender assigned to represent sarah had previously defended jorge torres Jr against sarah in a domestic violance case.

Naturally ,his motion to withdraw was granted.

One withdrawal was due to unavailability, another was replaced by sarah, and yet another cited an adversarial relationship.

On December 27 judge wooten denied bankowitz´s motion,Instead ,he ordered bankowitz to coodinate a meeting with sarah before the january 17 pre-trial conference.

as of the time of this upload, the trial start date of january 30 still stands.

Torres:” sarah , i cant   breath, babe , seriously”

bonne:” yeah ,thats what  you  do when you choke me.”

torres:” sarah,sarah”

The case of Sarah Boone and her partner, Jorge Torres Jr., captured the nation’s attention in 2020 when Boone was charged with second-degree murder. Boone claimed that the couple had been playing hide-and-seek that went tragically wrong. Prosecutors alleged that Boone had intentionally caused Torres’ death. As the trial unfolded, many were left wondering What happened to Jorge Torres Jr? Was the video evidence presented in court put into consideration while convicting Sarah?

Sarah Boone hails from Florida and is charged with the second-degree murder of her then-42-year-old boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr. The latter died in 2020 after allegedly being locked inside a suitcase. According to Sarah, they were playing hide and seek while drunk when she fell asleep in her bedroom. When she woke up, she found Torres still locked in the suitcase. She then called 911, reporting that her boyfriend had stopped breathing.

An autopsy of 42 -year -old jorge Torres Jr ,revealed that he died of  positional asphyxiation with environmental suffocation consistent with prolonged confinement

Based on the medical examiner´s findings , they estimated that torres had been in the suitcase for “up to 11 hours or more.”

Investigations of the murder case

On February 25, 2020, Sarah called 911 to report the death of his boyfriend, Jorge Torres, inside their Winter Park apartment. Sarah told the dispatchers that the two were playing the night before while drunk when they thought it would be funny if the deceased hid in a suitcase. The infamous lady went upstairs, where she passed out in her bedroom. Hours later, she woke up to her phone ringing, and upon going downstairs, she found Jorge unresponsive. A few minutes after the 911 call, the Orange County Fire Department arrived and confirmed Torres’ death. When was Sarah Boone charged? Sarah was arrested on Feb. 24, 2020, and charged with murder. The Florida State Attorney’s Office presented evidence as a video. The video allegedly recorded on Boone’s cell phone showed a conversation between her and Torres.

What happened to the original attorney who represented Sarah?

Mauricio Padilla, the original Boone’s lawyer, initially tried to withdraw from the case on April 18, 2022. Padilla withdrew his motion and filed it again the following month, saying that his relationship with Boone had become adversarial.

Boone wrote a letter to the judge, saying that she was disappointed by Padill’s betrayal without any explanation for the withdrawal. Several public defenders were then appointed to represent the convict but were forced to withdraw, citing a conflict of interest. On Jul. 11, 2022, Frank Berkowitz was formally named Boone’s attorney. However, On October 3, she wrote a letter to the judge, stating she had only spoken with her new attorney thrice. On January 10, 2023, she sent a letter to Berkowitz saying that she had not heard from her lawyer since the previous status hearing on December 27. The suitcase murderer referenced a pretrial conference scheduled for Jan. 17 and noted she wanted to attend. However, court records indicated that Sarah did not avail herself of the pretrial conference on Jan. 17, 2023.

What are the legal proceedings on the case?

During the pretrial hearing in January, a lawyer representing Boone told the judge of her plans to argue a battered spouse defence at Boone’s upcoming trial. Sarah Boone’s trial is scheduled to start on Jul. 24, 2023. But will there be any new evidence on the case?

Boone is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr.

In Feb. 2020, Boone called 911 to report Torres was dead inside their apartment in Winter Park. She told 911 dispatchers that she and Torres were playing a game of hide-and-seek the night before and during the game, both “jokingly thought it would be funny if Jorge got in the suitcase,” the arrest report stated.

Boone told Orange County deputies she and Torres had been drinking wine. She claims she went upstairs to a bedroom and fell asleep, leaving Torres in the suitcase where he died.

Sarah Boone is charged with second-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., who died after being zipped inside a suitcase. Boone said the two were playing hide-and-seek and that she fell asleep, and later came down and found him dead. Prosecutors said videos found on Boone’s cell phone show her taunting him, as he begs for help and says he cannot breathe.

Ahead of the trial, the state released body camera video from the scene, Boone’s interview with detectives and the disturbing videos from her cellphone from the night Torres died.

The videos appeared to show Torres zipped inside the suitcase, occasionally moving, and seemingly begging Sarah to let him out. In the video, it seems Boone repeatedly taunts him.

“Sarah, I can’t breathe, babe,” Torres said, according to the video.

“That’s on you,” she responds.

“Sarah, I can’t breathe,” he said again.

“That’s on you,” Boone responds, even laughing.
