Anna Young ran the House of Prayer cult in Micanopy, Florida, where she tortured and murdered victims.

For 28 years, her crimes remained hidden until her daughter Joy Fluker reported her to Detective Kevin Allen in 2016.

 Hidden rooms, torture, and murder exposed after 28 years of silence.

1.A Fringe group, characterized by fanatical devoton to common spiritual beliefes or individual.

JOHN NEAL :” I was there for 7 years  before i got out, i would call it a religious cult, completely evil, not a god “

JOY FLUKER:” Yall  looked at her like the voice of god

Say  we would be praying or something and she start jumping and then all  of  a sudden this man voice would come out,t was scary thinking about it.”

JOHN NEAL:”  she was trying to follow Jesus Chris according to the word of god. tell me what she did that jesus did ,

Anna was a cruel, vicious heartless women.”

JOY  FLUKER:”There’s horrific memories of the beatings”

JOHN NEAL  : ” That women would have killed me.”

JOY  FLUKER: “ there’s little attic spaces..that used  like…

Like as a punishment area”

KEVIN ALLEN: “ We’re walking  through the house, i heard this um .. it’s was almost like a howl,Just the roaring sound “

JOY FLUKER : “That room is frightening , that door is frightening to me still , i just don’t, i never want to go past that door  again.”

MOTHER ANNA

 KEVIN ALLEN: You have to go down a long dirt road ,it was just kind of spooky .

It was  about 7 and 1/ 2 acres,

and there’s this big black security  gate  that’s locked.

The house of prayer.

A secret place where dozens of followers and their children lived for years under the control of a women  known as Mother Anna.

 KEVIN ALLEN:“They were looking for some direction,

they dressed in old -fashioned clothing ,everyone worked for Anna Young,

so , if she could find individuals  a job out in society, she would make sure that they knew the rules, 

They could not  leave the property exept to work,

And all of their proceeds were turned over to Anna young.

They had a church and a school for children on site and they offered to provide all care for the children.

But what happened in short order  is Anna Young took total control of them, and she  determined wht they ate, when they slept, and how they were punished.

I first became aware of the house of prayer when an individual by the name Joy Fluker had  contacted our agency.

She claimed that her stepbrother, whom she knew as  Moses had been murdered.

BETH KARAS:” This call come  from Joy comes out of nowhere, she talking about this little boy she knows as Moses.

who was tortured and murdered by her mother, Anna Young,

28 years before,

when Moses was living at the house of prayer under Anna’s care.”

JOY FLUKER:”  I used  to have  nightmaes about Moses as an adult, i love my mom very  dearly, but i remember thinking like, why would she do that?”

Joy Flucker’s decision  to turn on her mother was a long time coming,Just a few years earlier.

Anna Young , charismatic, self-proclaimed preacher ,had given her  blessing to Joy’s marriage.

JOY FLUKER: “ The kids,we all locked at her like the voice of god, i thought she was beautiful and  wanted to be her .”

But for years,

Even as she’d laughed and danced with her mother, she had helped to keep secret the truth of Anna Young’s past.

JOY FLUKER: ” All these years i’ve been tormented by something i knew, i knew what i knew .”

That Anna and her husband , Jonah, had presided over a sadistic cult  where followers and their children , not Just moses, had been terribly abused.

BETH KARAS: “The house of Prayer and Anna’s religious zeal grew out of guilt”

And that’s because in 1973, while they were still living in chicago

Anna and Jonah reported his 6 year old daughter Kathy missing while  on a family outing , and Kathy was never found.

 KEVIN ALLEN: “ Our investigation revealed that Anna young, in fact beat and  tortured this child,

and locked that child into a closet in her house in Chicago, Illinois, and the child suffercated and died  in the closet.”

JOY FLUKER:” So , she masked her guilt and whatever she was going through by finding  religion and …

i don’t know,give penance and maybe save ourselves from hellfire or whatever for what happened , and they picked up , left Chicago, and said we’re going to  start a new life.

BETH KARAS: ” And they changed the way they lived , their manner of dress and started  offring shelter to people .

JOY FLUKER:“Everything in her mind became just black and white, just it,you got to be for god or you’re not,and she’s on,she was zealous

like i’m going to make you holy,i’m going to be holy, i’m going to be  this holy women , and i’m going to bring people to god.”

KEVIN ALLEN:  ”  John Neal lived here in the 80s, 1983 through ’89, and we’ve asked him to help us to piece together what happened here  at the house of Prayer.

JOHN NEIL : “there you go, that’s it,right there”

KEVIN ALLEN: ”  I found all these  hidden comparments  

 and hidden rooms , And you  couldn’t even notice it ,

But there’s like hidden walls that you could open  and you could securely shut,

And they  were all locked  from the outside.

And when i would eventually interview some of the witnesses, they would explain to me that sometimes was some of their punishment.

SABRINA HAMBURG :” So we were  inside the box, no food , no air, i really don’t know the size of the box, but  it was two of us and we were sitting , we got.. we stepped into the box and sat down and then the lid was over our heads.

I don’t  remember why she  beat me, but i remember the beating and um.. they stripped me naked, i was beaten so bad that  it when you see the board  hitting you ,but you don’t feel any pain.

KEVIN ALLEN:  “How many times were you struck?

SABRINA HAMBURG : “ I don’t remember how long, i don’t know, they didn’t take me to the hospital or anything , they told ,she  told then i was the devil.”

JOHN NEAL :  “She found out their religion had power, she figured out she could use the word of god and the name of god to exercise power over people.”

O.D Pough , the elder statesman of the church, began a sexual relationship with a women that he was not married to in the church.

He felt so guilty about it, that he  went  and confessed to Anna Young what he did , so Anna Young said ;

“If it offends you, you must cut it off .Jesus said ,” if you eye offends you, pluck it out ,your hands offend you , cut it off.

KEVIN ALLEN: well,  since he had  sexual intercourse with someone he wasn’t married  to that Anna Young had not married him to ,  he was ordered to cut his own penis off without medical  assistance.

Infection set in and he almost died .

Anna was completely making up stuff and these folks just went along with it because Anna was so charismatic and she got her hooks in.

Cult was growing , Anna’s kingdom was growing, Anna walked around like god , she didn’t like something , people get beat.

Can’t remember the first time, but as i got older i still remember those cuz they were  vicious and they were cruel .

John Neal was punished in such a graphic and horrific fashion that he still has the scars on his body  today from the physical abuse that occured to him when he was 7 years old.

JOHN NEAL : ” they was using tree branches, they were using electrical cords,

when i say three branches, i mean just like thick switches, my skin start bustin open, and it just obliterated my little body .

And Anna sit there and watched it,god was with me,that women would have killed me,..i was a kid,i didn’t know what i was wrapped  up into.

So  instead of jumping that fence and running away ,like i could have 7 years i stayed there, i believed i would go to hell if i left.”

Many of the witness said they were brainwashed when they were there and  many,

 also  compared it to Jonestown.

“Minister turned cult leader Jim Jones order the murder and mass suicide of more than 900 followers, the memory of Jonestown lives on  with now common phrase ‘ don’t drink the Kool-aid’.

KEVIN Allen: ” If Anna Young  had said drink the Kool -aid many of the people at the house of Prayer said they would not have quiestioned it ,they just would  have drunk  the Kool -aid .

Joy fluker used to live  at house of prayer , and she has been asked to walk us through the interrior of the residence to get a rough idea of how things worked here back in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

KEVIN  ALLEN: ” I was infront of her,she was coming from behind and i heard this um…it was almost like a howl, and  then she goes, that’s where i found Moses, she  just went into uncontrollable sob.”

JOY FLUKER; ” It’s frightening, that door is frightening to me, still.

I just dont…i never want to go past that door i can’t, i dreaded doing it i knew  i had to had to be done ,

um.. i remember him starving and i remember his eyes  being so pixelated like he was dying the last time i seen him.

KEVIN ALLEN:  ” we didn’t have  Moses  in our computer system and that’s when Joy told me , well that’s because everyone had their names  changed ,that her mother gave them church names.

Joy told us that  Moses came from Chicago, and a member of her church in chicago had a teenage daughter that become pregnant,

And Anna Young , she changed the child’s name from  Emon harper  to Moses Young.

And she told the church, this is our son, this is my son  and Jonah Young’s son , and we will raise him as our own .”

JOHN NEAL: ” Her mission was to break the child and it was a methodical, slow ,vicious, cruel breaking, with starving them, sleep  deprivation, having them stand up for hours and hours.

This is how she dealt with the children.

” Oh,brother Moses? yeah,he’s going to a better place, he’s  happy now, he’s good , he’s not here anymore ,he’s gone”

And that was the end of the story.

KEVIN ALLEN: ” Multiple witnesses told us that his remains were placed in the burn barrel and burned  for several days .

THOMAS POUGH: “…And instructed uh  someone  to start the fire, and so the fire was started in a ..in a barrel which we used to burn things, and uh and of course it was put in that  burn barrel while it was lit and flaming.and … and  i saw that, saw his corpse burning.

KEVIN ALLEN: ” We asked for assistance from the National Center for Missing and exploited children,

and they sent in to of their top human remains detection people.

And we knew what we had to search for, and we had to go by witnesses that was telling us where they thought  the burn barrel was 15 or 20  years ago .

And it took us about 2 weeks to excavate all those areas which  could have contained the human remains.

Searched those areas thoroughly and we were unable to find any of the remains of Moses,but what we did , is through checking through records which Anna Young’s name was mentioned.

BETH KARAS:  ” They learned about more alleged abuse of young children including a girl, who ended up in the hospital in 1983, 5 years before Moses died “

It was John Neal’s 2 year old sister ,Katonya ,

called Kay by her brother.

JHON NEAL: ” Anna had complete control of my sister and she would make her run in place and chant and say jesus over and over again,

it’s like she had a little robot.

Anna had me beat my 2 year old sister, Anna had Joy beat my 2  year old sister, Anna Young dehumanized my sister, turned her into a demon,

therefore , you weren’t beaten your  2 year old sister , you were beaten a demon .”

JOY FLUKER:  ” i remember hearing her crying or whatever, getting whooping for something and  the crying stopped and i remember  everyone rushing in .”

JOHN NEAL : “Kay  finally had a massive seizure, what i remember seeing my sister laying up in the hospital bed on life support and the doctor knew Katonya was my sister and he said ,” would you like to kiss your sister?

And i looked at evil  Anna Young  and i said “no ” Anna Young had made her not my sister anymore, she was a demon.

Do you know i was a grown man before i finally  convinced myself that my sister…

the woman was wicked…i was a grown man  before  i finally convinced myself that my sister wasn’t a demon , because that evil demon had Anna Young.

So i watched her on that bed, thank god she died, cuz Anna wouldn’t  have stopped, she couldn’t.”

But the adults at the house of prayer said nothing.

took no action,

Including  the mother of Katonya  and John Neal, Lea Vera.

KEVIN ALLEN : ” And she told us that she was recruited into a cult, she did not know it was a cult , she was poor, down in her luck , she lived in the projects.”

And after she was at the house of prayer in Micanopy for about a months, everything started to change,her biological children were taken from her .

KEVIN ALLEN : ” where you aware of any physical abuse of either John or  K?”

LEA VERA: ” no , cuz they kept me away from them, i didn’t even know that she was in the hospital, she was in the hospital in another name, they renamed her  Katonya Young.

Anna told me she had a seizur to stop her heart, i  couldn’t understandi it because she wasn’t sick, she didn’t have no seizures.

She didn’t take no medication for anything,she was a healthy child,

how did she die?”

KEVIN ALLEN : ” she went in and took responsibility for what happened to Katonya  because Anna Young told her to.

John Neal was still under her care and control , so she told me that  she believed if she had told the truth to authorities back in 1983, she never would have saw her son John Neal  ever again.”

And in some cases,like that of Sabrina hamburg and her son Marcos , mothers were forced by mother Anna to give up their children .

SABRINA HAMBURG: ” She started to say that i had unnatural affection for my son …i nursed my baby…

and you know you have a bond to that kid when you nurse.

And so… well, who wants to have a natural affection for your child? you know , and she said ;

“well, listen, we can keep him for a while,” and so they started to keep him and i come by and he’d want to come to me and hug me and they  wouldn’t let  him , they wouldn’t let him hug me..

Cuz she would have him in her room, bu i think  he didn’t… he didn’t respond  to her and that’s why she came out  into the congregation and said, um,  and say  he has to go or me.

” It’s me or him” because he didn’t ever really,um, i guess she couldn’t get him to do what she wanted him to do.”

KEVIN ALLEN : “She took her own biological son to Puerto Rico and left him on the streets of Puerto Rico because  he had a devil in him .”

SABRINA HAMBURG: ” i said, we have to take him to a church cuz you know , i knew somebody who would take care of him.”

KEVIN ALLEN : ” And when i reached out to the authorities in Puerto Rico, they said ,well,We have no record…

 … of Marcos Cruz ever having been abandoned on the streets here.

and the only photo we had of him was when he was about 2 years old.

Now the National Center for Missing and Exploited children used a age progression to show   what he probably would look like today.

And that poster’s on the street of Puerto Rico today.”

JOHN NEAL : ” Anna always made other people take responsibility,but everybody else was doing the dirty work, which a good con artist,

that’s how you do ,right?

finally, Anna messed up, Anna, messed up “

KEVIN ALLEN: ”  Anna young would speak in tongues, she would stand up and her voice would turn really dark or deep .

And she would close her eyes and, you know , kind of whirl around in circles and she would speak the word of god.”

JOY FLUKER: ” Chanting,you know,the blood of jesus,blood  of jesus the blood of jesus on people,

the more people came, she started feelin like she was the voice of god.”

KEVIN ALLEN :  ” did you believe that god or the lord was directly speaking through her when she spoke in tongues?”

SABRINA HAMBURG:  ” At that time  , i did.”

KEVIN ALLEN:  ” How about  the rest of the congregation? “

SABRINA HAMBURG:  ” i think they did , too”

And right beside her through it all was her husband, brother Jonah.

JOHN NEAL: ” She called him the pastor because what  hypocrites and liaers  like Anna do…

…is they go through the scripture and they pick out what they want to use to their advantage.

So, she know the bible said a woman can’t exercise spiritual authority over man, so he was the pastor in name.

Anna ran the show, Anna was god.”

Then one day ,

brother Jonah failed to return from an arrend he was running in his truck.

JOY FLUKER: ” I was supposed to go organ lessons and uh dad didn’t show up to take me, we’re, you know ,trying to figure out where he was, but  i do remember like ,the last time i saw him, she yelled  and said he was nothing but the devil, brother Jonah.

A day or two went by, she thought she left her, and the sheriff came by and i remember and told her that they’d found my dad in an accident.”

BETH KARAS: When the jack slipped and crushed him under his truck,his death seemed to make things worse at the house of prayer.”

She took it out on other people and got more extreme with her demands for holiness and purity.

KEVIN ALLEN: ” In 1992, there was an individual staying at the house of prayer, her name was Nikki nicholson.”

Anna Young had met her parents at a revival meeting.

JOY FLUKER: ” Nikki was the same age as me,and they said,

she had cleanliness issues.”

KEVIN ALLEN: ”  So , Anna young offered to take custody of their daughter , that they could come and visit her, but Anna young  would teach her the right way of living under te word of god”

And while Nikki Nicholson was at the house of prayer, she was not very cooperative.

JOY FLUKER:  ”  I guess one day mom had enough because, whatever training she was giving wasn’t working .

So she decided to give her a bath, and she had the water heated up extra hot, she added like bleach and stuff to the tub.”

KEVIN ALLEN: ” Anna Young  held her down by several people of the cult and within very fairly short order of putting her in this steel tub with bleach and hot water in it ,the skin started to melt off her legs , from the knees down”

Nikki’s parents found about the incident and and they  reported it.

BETH KARAS: ” That triggered an investigation into child abuse, and so , for the first time, it appeared  Anna Young was going to be held accountable  for her actions at the house of prayer.”

KEVIN ALLEN: “ Criminal charges were filed for abuse  and cruelty to a child, and what Anna Young did at that point is she took her daughter Joy and she fled

So, the house of prayer just disappeared  was the bottom line. 

Anna Young wasn’t there anymore,the cult  matriach wasn’t there , so everyone  that hadn’t escaped did  escape.”

Mother Anna  was on the run for 8 years.

JOY FLUKER: ” We stayed in Atlanta , Ohio, Indianapolis somewhere, eventually we went to Godfrey Illinois, we stayed in the back of the church.

I knew  the FBI was looking for my mom at that point .

I was  angry  like having to like where are we going to go now? fake IDs and all this stuff going on the run,

and that was because of the bath she gave Nikki Nicholson but now i get it,is because she worried about that and everything else could come up…”

KEVIN ALLEN:“in 2000,the FBI had put an ad in the National Enquirer, and they asked for the public assistance in locating Anna Young and they got a tip that Anna Young was hiding out at  church-based community in Illinois.!

JOY FLUKER: “ I remember getting the call from my uncle that they came and arrested her and he said that  she ..she was in the attic .

And when they  came  up there ,she didn’t try to pretend like anything , she  just told them the truth who she was, i was devastated.”

KEVIN ALLEN: ” She  obtained a lawyer at that point and the lawyer negotiated a plea, so what her punishment was for what she did to Nikki Nicholson, she got 6 months in prison .

The bottom line is Anna Young received time served

for what she did  to Nikki Nicholson.”

BETH KARAS: ” She does move to Georgia and her daughter Joy,gets married.”

For years, Joy Flucker said she tried to put out of her mind what her mother had done until she had children of her own .”

JOY FLUKER: ” She called me all types of names in front of my children , we would fight and i’d tell her she crossed the line, that was  alwas the trigger for me reminding me how she took over  people’s kids at the house of prayer.

And for me to finally face the truth that this isn’t just an overbearing grandmother, this is mother Anna,all of those things  is , you know , was jogging memories and stuff and i just had enough.

And that’s when i started  digging and digging…

I was like Googling for all types of search engines

and everything or find a moses young.

And then  that’s when i finally called the clerk’s office trying to find out if they had any of Moses adoption records and she didn’t find any,i was so emotional that i wound up telling her all my thoughts and feelings about everything.

And she said this is what you need to do , you need to contact  the police and tell them what you just told me”

KEVIN ALLEN: “Nothing happened as far as the house of prayer until Joy Fluker called  in 2016 , i thought to myself , if half of what Joy Fluker says is true this would be the biggest case i have been involved in.

Children  that were tortured and murdered by a matriarch of a cult.wow.”

And as detective  Kevin Allen built his case against  Mother Anna , he spent hours with Joy and with other cult members  she said knew,

what happened to little  Moses and others.

Our target  in this investigation  is no one less  then Anna Young, she needs to be put away, there  needs to be a day of reckoning for her”

For many , the fact that Joy had been the catalyst for the investigation seemed highly ironic.

JOHN NEAL: ” You got to realize Joy was the most cruel evil child you would ever want to meet, that’s how bad she was, people today , they still don’t want t to deal with Joy,because how she was as a child.

So, she pampered Joy,she took people’s money and bought Joy toys, whatever  Joy had a room full of  toys ,what did  i have?

there was no rstriction on Joy exept for her mom ,she could do whatever, she could slap me in the face whenever she she felt like it.”

Now, a college professor dealing with the issue of cults , Joy was honest about her role in the cult.

JOY FLUKER: ” I did feel somewhat special being her daughter, i felt like i was a princess , if i saw someone doing something against the rules, i reported it , so, i would report things ,being more of her favor, i wasn’t like sad for anyone ,but i just didn’t want to be next, i didn’t want to get beat.”

And detective Allen worried that the testimony of Joy and others would not be enough on its own to get a convcition .

KEVIN ALLEN: ” We were very concerned about a  successful prosecution since we did not find the body of the crime.”

So he decided to follow the money.

KEVIN ALLEN : ” Whether it was social security or welfare checks  or food stamps, all turned over to Anna Young,

and we also knew that  she had claimed  and accepted funds from social security administration for her child that she did not legally  adopted Moses Emon Harper.

So we connected to an investigator, inspector General’s office for the division of social security , and we would like you to invite her in to talk about her social  security benefits.

We didn’t really want to hit her slow, you know  all of a sudden about dead  kids that that were tortured  and beaten and starved to death,and they talked to her solid for 4 hours.”

KEVIN ALLEN :” After we locked her down regarding her accepting social security benefits for a child that wasn’t hers  she was confronted about all of the children, she was confronted with  all the information, evidence and witness testimony that we  had collected up to that point.

And her response was , ” Do i have time to get my affairs in order?” she believed that she was going to be arrested that day.

She was indicted for one count of first -degree murder for the murder of Moses Eman  harper.”

Police say Anna Elizabeth  Young got away with murder for 25 years,for many of those,

she lived quietly here in this Marietta home.

KEVIN ALLEN: ” We knocked on her door around 8:30 at night, and just the look of absolute shock and fear in her face was amazing.”

The indictment says she premeditated the murder of a child who went by Moses

By witholding food,

Willfully torturing,

Maliciously punishing,

And unlawfully caging the boy.

FEBRUARY 17 , 2021

Anna Young ,former leader of the house of prayer in Micanopy ,is due in court.

JOY FULKER: “At the hearing , i was terrified to see her ,like i was so nervous, i was a ball of nerves, she looked right at me,

but she looked at me like i was a stranger ,but she ..i know she know it was me.she looked at me and we locked eyes.”

KEVIN ALLEN: ” We had  requested  that two counts of first -degree murder be charged against Anna Young  ,but only one was initially charged,

But we have two great prosecutors and they negotiated a plea so that Anna Young could plead guilty to John’s sisters death.

As well as Moses.”

JOHN NEAL: ” That’s classic,Anna Young denying what she was what she denying her her guilt, she accepted the plea bargain to save her children.

She is 100% guilty, she knows it, the children know it, we all do , but she was still denying ,denying, no contest.”

KEVIN  ALLEN : ” Part of the change of plea and sentencing date in court was three of the witnesses had an oportunity to adress the court.

JOY FLUKER: ” I made sure to try to be as detailed as possible  in my statement so that she could hear me and know why i had  to do what i did.I had to speak up.”

You can forget ortry to forget many mistakes in life but an innocent human life should never be forgotten “

JOY FLUKER: ” I want her to know that this was real, this wasn’t just some vengeful tirade, this is me trying to do this make it right.”

JOHN NEAL: ” It took 30 years for justice., i would have liked  it sooner.”

I’ had to live with these memories my entire life, special  heartfelt thanks to detective Kevin Allen who pursued justice in this case as if katonya were part of his own family and indeed to me,

he is family forever, finally , i vould like to thank Joy Fluker for having the strength and the courage to speak up and speak out concerning the truth, god bless you Joy and thank you.

The lord says forgive  so that your heavenly father will forgive you, as true  follower of jesus christ i adhere to these principles,

I, am the mother of Lea Katonya Jackson, this has been a long time coming, thirty years to get justice for Kay,Kay was a two year old when i went into the cult called the house of prayer in which there really were a lot of horrors.

A house of horrors for all people and i ‘m here to stand up for my daughter and say that justice finally has been done,

and that Kay , her life, will not be in vain because what she went through never hopefully that another child will never be able to go through what she went through.

Yes, it hurts and it will always hurt.

 JUDGE MARK MOSELEY : “I thank you for your input  and hope for everyone this will be closure, all innocent blood cries out from the ground uh … for an answer.

Only the cowardly would fail to join  in that cry uh and desire that justice be done.

the  court sentences you in the 2017 case to 30  years in the departement of correction , and in the 2021 case to 15  years, those  sentences will  run concurrent.

ATTORNEY: before  the court concludes will Ms Young’s children be able to give her a hugg?”

 JUDGE MARK MOSELEY :  ” Uh, no, i can’t permit that , and i’m sorry about that ,but there are protocol the court has to aintain in all cases.”

JOHN NEAL: Hey , you never let my sister hug her mama , you didn’t let me hug my sister after you murdered her. the audacity of you to want to hug now 

let  them hug you while you’re in prison .

An ex- cult leader accused of murdering two toddlers found guilty in court today, a judge sentencing her to 30  years in prison, at 79 years old, that means she will most likely spend the rest of her life behind bars.

JOHN NEAL : ” She was free all this time, all these years,living life , good life, dancing,celebrating ,lying, manipulating more more people,

In that courtroom, you blasphemed god for the last time, it’s over.

JOY FLUKER: ” Of course, my family doesn’t talk to me anymore for the most part, you told on your own mother, i knew the risk, i knew that she would likely go to jail for it , and … and i  hated that thought imagining her in jail .

Based on her age , i knew that it’s possible that if she went to jail , she could die in jail,i mean , i still cry sometimes, i still feel  sad about it, but i feel so much better than i did holding  all this in.

Six weeks after being sentenced, Anna Young contracted COVID -19 and died  at a state womens prison in Ocala , Florida.
