On October 19, 2025, Flagstaff police responded to a routine noise complaint at a home on East Terrace Avenue around 4:00 AM.
As officers walked onto the porch and approached the front door, they suddenly heard a gunshot fire from inside the house.
Police detained Brodie on the porch and swept the home. Inside the living room, they discovered her mother, Doris Brodie, deceased from a gunshot wound.
Mea Brodie was arrested on the scene and subsequently charged with second-degree murder under three separate counts in Coconino County, Arizona. The EWU documentary heavily features the police bodycam footage and subsequent interrogation videos, highlighting the chilling moment officers realized their arrival directly coincided with the fatal shooting.
