A disgraced funeral director has been coming face to face with bereaved victims in court as he faces jail this week over a catalogue of offences at his business in Hull.
Robert Bush is on the third day of a five day sentencing hearing in a case which sent shockwaves through the nation and led to calls for tougher regulations across the funeral industry.
The 48-year-old admitted 67 charges, including preventing a lawful and decent burial and fraud. The charges relate to the discovery of remains at his business on Hessle Road in city back in early 2024, when concerns were raised about ongoing practices.

Here’s the moment back in March 2024 when police officers stormed the plan after it touched down at Heathrow Airport.
After he landed police arrested Robert Bush on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial,fraud by false representation.

Police were arresting him again, and took him in for more questioning.
This time he didn’t want to speak , he chose to have a solicitor give a statement The next day , he’s questioned again, and this time when he speaks, there is one phrase he keeps repeating.
” no comment.”
He refuses to explain the fate of one family’s money,despite bank statements showing spending on supermarkets and cars.
In April 2026 Robert pleaded guilty to 67 charges , including preventing a lawful and decent burial of the remains.
Victims family say their loved ones were disposed of like a piece of litter.
One women whose unborn baby was sent to Legacy Funerals for cremation has said she was absolutely distraught to learn that the ashes she received were more likely a mix of adult and animal remains.
Robert Bush’s crimes were uncovered in March 2024while he was away on holiday,two rival funeral directors visited his premises on Hessle Road in Hull to pick up a deceased individual and enountered a horrifid scene.
They immediately alerted the police.
Officers raided three branches in Hull and Berevly , uncovering a horrific scene where 35 bodies were found decomposing under improper , inrefrigerated conditions.
Bush was initially arrested alongside a woman on suspicion of prevention of a lawful burial , fraud , and money laundering .
Culminating in his dramatic second arret he tried to flee.
New Funeral Industry Laws
Mandatory regulation: The UK government is moving toward independent, statutory regulation of the funeral sector to replace the current system of voluntary code compliance.
Stricter licensing: New proposals mandate that all funeral directors must hold a valid operating license, subject to unannounced inspections of their mortuary facilities.
Protection of funds: Stricter financial ring-fencing rules are being drafted to ensure pre-paid funeral funds and charitable donations cannot be siphoned into personal bank accounts.
