Ten-year-old Bobby was tortured to death by his mother Nina Äikiä, 37, and his stepfather Eddy Larsson on a farm outside Nässjö in Småland in January 2006. For a month, the mentally disabled boy was tortured with electric shocks in his genitals, feces on his face and forced out naked in the snow.

The Bobby case was a Swedish criminal case in 2006. Bobby Äikiä, born March 12, 1995, died January 14, 2006, was a boy who was subjected to severe abuse and torture by his mother and her partner, which caused his death.

The case received a lot of attention in Sweden and sparked strong reactions, which resulted in the so-called Lex Bobby.

Bobby Äikiä, originally from Stenungsund, had Fragile X syndrome, which often also involves autism-like conditions and extreme shyness. His mother Niina Äikiä moved in with a new man, Eddy Larsson, on a small farm in Malmbäck parish in Småland.

According to the verdict, Bobby was then tortured. The media claims that the man was obsessed with porn and that he had many rough pornographic films at home, as well as a great interest in sadomasochism. He has previously been convicted of, among other things, two counts of aggravated rape.

The torture is said to have begun in the fall of 2005. The boy’s mother has said, among other things, that he was made to wear his underwear with feces on his face, was forced to lie naked in the snow and have snow shoveled over him, had alcohol poured into his mouth in a funnel and had a vacuum cleaner hose pressed against his genitals, was beaten with wooden sticks against his genitals and received rough blows. He was also burned with cigarettes and beaten with sticks.

At least the vacuum cleaner violence has been verified by finding the boy’s blood in the vacuum cleaner hose. The cause of death, according to the medical examiner’s certificate, is suffocation through aspiration of his own vomit.

At school, the staff didn’t notice anything, except that a teacher noticed that Bobby talked more about sex and alcohol than his peers at school. He told the teacher things like, “Mom was drunk” and “Mom was drunk on beer.”

The teacher contacted the mother about this and was told that “he says things like that all the time”, which is why the teacher let the matter go for now. The boy also had a lot of absences, as the mother and her partner often called him in sick.

sometimes after a quarter to four on sunday afternoon ,ten year old bobby äikia disappeared from his family’s car at the bäckebod shopping center in  Hissingen in gothenburg.

bobby , who has an  ADHD  -like illness, is very shy and had to wait in the car  with  the family’s two dogs.

but when the parents came back a quarter of an hour  later , he was gone…..

the last  he was seen, he  was sitting and waiting in the family var . it was a red passat station wagon like this , the car had  a covered trailer  like this.

there were also two white- brown terrier’s in the car that that may have attracted the attentions of passersby.

More than two weeks have passed since Bobby was reported missing and he still hasn’t been found.

The police fear that Bobby is dead and that his mother and stepfather are behind it.

in the afternoon, sunday , january 29th ,2006 ,10 year old bobby äikiä, was reported missing.

according to his mother and her partner,he had left the family’s car in the parking lot at the bäckebols shopping center in Hissingen in gothenburg.

the police immediately began searching the area but to no avail .soon  suspicions arose that bobby had not disappeared from bäckebols at all ,but  much earlier.

the last dafe sighting of him was in the last days of december 2005 when the ” efterlyst”  took up the case the week after the disappearance, according to the police.

a tipster called in and said that bobby had never been in the car in the parking lot.

suspicions were directed against bobby’s 30 year old mother and her 39 year old partner .

the couple  was arrested  on their farm in malmbäck outside nässjö.suspected of murdering the boy.the same day , the search  for bobby’s body.

among other things, the police have searched  the ashes at a fire scene in the plot.

so who is bobby’s39  year old  stepfather who , together with bobby’s mother ,is now suspected of murdering the boy?

he is a violent person convicted of raping and assaulting two women .

one of the them was his  then -girlfriend.

the fall of 2000, the 43 year old mother of four met sofia ,the 39 year old ,through a contact line.shortly after the first meeting.

shortly  after the first meeting ,she and then four year old son went to Gryt Marsvik.the torture and humiliation began immediately.

the man’s torture was so brutal and  humiliating that sofia  was paralyzed and incapacitated.

between the torture and threats,  the man told about his dreams.

his greates wish was to become a criminologist and murder  someone first to be able to be put himself in these massmurderes ,how they felt and how they did and then he had to do it himself.

in the end , the abuse became so severe and  the threats against her young son so serious that sofia realized she had torun away  from the man to survive.

after two months with the 39 year old , sofia finally managed to escape and , with the help of support  from her family , she reported th torture.

on december 14, 2000, th 39 year old was sentenced  by Norrköping district court to five years in prison .

for assault , aggravated assault,unlawful threats ,aggravated rape and sexual assault on sofia .but also  on another women.the verdict was appealed to the court of appeal,which reduced the sentence to 3 years in prison.

A month after his disappearance, Bobby’s mother finally admits that he is dead. She also says that he died two weeks before they reported him missing in Gothenburg.

When he was lying out in the snow, Eddie stood with his foot on his chest while Niina sat on his stomach. When they bring him in and tie him to a chair, Bobby’s body can’t take it anymore, and he dies.

ten year old bobby is dead. somehow killed by his  stepgather and his mother.

here , under the ice in lovsjön ,1 miles south of jönköping,the body was found by a diver.

on the way to detention hearings that morning ,bobby’s mother had broken down and told where the boy’s body  was.

at the same time that she and the 39 year old stepfather were arrested on suspicion of the murder of then year old bobby,police divers found th body wrapped  and sunk at the  bottom of the lake.

the police’s suspicions against  the couple wer raised quite soon after bobby was reported missing at bäckebol shopping center outside gothenburg on 29 january.

the 30 year old mother an her partner were arrested on on their farm in malmbäck outside nässjö . both initially  denied all charges and the police searched frantically for the body  in the yard  in the immediate vicinity.

since bobby’s body was found , the stepfather has now  changed his story and claims that th boy’s death was an accident.

the man  has previously been convicted of assault and rape of two women.

one of the stepfather’s former women spoke about  his sadism and torture behavior.

but who is bobby’s mother who falls for such a man and moves in with him just a short time after they meet?

a move that uproots bobby from his routines and ultimately leads to his death.

” maria ” a bestfriend of Niina remembers well when her friend told her that she had met a man through  a phon line. and she thought he had a beautiful voice,

That’s probably what she fell for..his voice and his way of being on the phone then until he starts talking about sex.

the man said ,among other things ,that he was into tying, whipping and torturing women. Niina still  decided to meet the man with the nice voice who described himself  as a cross between Hans fallén and sean connery.

shortly after Niina met the man for the first time  she decided to take bobby with hr and move in with him on his farm in  malmbäck.

the friends lose  contact. Niina didn’t  contact maria but she called her a few times,her voice was very short and  she didn’t say  much .sh answered what was asked of her but then said  nothing.

maria wasn’t fond of her friend’s new boyfriend.it was the first  real permanet relationship .maria thought  she’s never had a relationship like that before.

she  also said that Niina was probably in his  power and didn’t dare to do anything than do what he said because he said” you can do whatever you want as long as you listen to him and did what  he said”

maria  thinks a lot about what happened.” you become  so blind when you fall in love .she could never take the life of her son . she is not capable of t doing that . as well as i know her she would never do that . she would  rather take her own life than take the life of her boy in that case. i can only say that she is a kind person . she doen’t want anyone to get hurt.but he believes in everyone.she is easily influenced by people .

that’s the negative thing about her.

While Niina and Eddy were thinking about what to do with Bobby’s body, he was kept in the chicken coop. Finally, they went to Lake Ovsjön outside Jönköping where they lowered his body with chains.

After questioning, Niina pointed out the location so that the police could get there and pick up Bobby from under the ice. Niina and Eddy blamed each other and admitted to torture, but denied intent to kill Bobby.

in the Gothenburg area , the police have deployed all available resources to search  for a ten year old boy who disappeared  yesturday.parents went into a supermarket in Hissingen and when the parents came out,the boy was gone .

the boy has a disability that makes him very shy.

there was something that didn’t add up with the disappearance of the ten year old boy. 

but no one could have guessed what would come later.

a macabre story about two people who  should  never have met.

once upon a time in the early 80s,long before bobby  was born , some boys were playing along  the motala stream. they are bad at school, but here they are kings. they fish and grill and drink their first beers.

but there’s one guy who never  comes along….

the boy who is like air goes to schoole here in  an affluent residential area in Norrköping, he grows up as an only child in a high -rise building above the villas.acquaintances say that the boy is quite  spoiled ,but that he received a traditional upbringing.

at school , everyone knows who  he is because he is so withdrawn.he wasn’t  really the  one  who was chosen first at the gym or anything ,but he was the last one left . 

jesper  is one of the few  who gets to know him .he takes this photo of him at the boy’s summer home in the  Santa Anna archipelago.this is where he  feels most comfortable.

jesper  said ” nice ,guy, a little rowdy sometimes like all guys maybe, but never once that i know of has there been fight.”

but we don’t get quite same picture  from another  childhood  friend.

” he was mean.you don’t want to be alone with him.or if you were alone  with him ,then he could  be a little semi- normal.but if there were three of you like this , well ,  guys are often a little more . he always tried to the one he was with to freeze out the third one so on. i remember that he wasn’t kind to animals.that’s what i remember.”

others at the school descibed him as invisible,powerless. but during puberty , something comes to life witihn him.

he escapes into a fantasy world. here he is the one in charge.many years later ,he will  become known throughout the country  as bobby’s stepfather.

jesper can’t remember  bobby’s stepfather  ever talking about girls in school. his life consisted of being at their  country house or at home with mom and dad. that’s what he did.

the country house represented  safety for the boy and it was  safety  he sought when he  came back here to  his car on a cold winter day  25 year after this photo was taken with a corps in th back seat.

about 15 years ago,two teenage girls roamed the streets of  stenungssund.

they too are bullied and ostraciezed at school ,one of them will later have a son named bobby.

the other one is called annika and she tells  that the most important thing in life for her and her friend  was to meeting a guy.

the friend had a severe form of acne on her face.she was bullied  at school and felt ugly and unloved. her family  says that the family’s history is marked by men’s violence against their wives.

her mother grew up in a small  town in finland,but was married off and forced to move to  sweden with a a man who drank and  abused her.

the girl is very hurt by all the fighting and violence at home. in the forensic psychiatric investigation that was conducted after bobby’s death , it is descibed as a dampening filter between her  and the outside world.

she builds a  psychic wall to protect herself  against  all evil.

but the wall  also blocks out positive things and makes it difficult for  her to feel compassion for others. she becomes shy and  numb.

as a little girl, her dream was to one day meet a farmer,and live a quiet life  in the countryside .but  in her teens ,she instead finds herself in a  vicious circle.

her weak self-esteem and longing for love make her an easy victime for many guys who wants casual relationships throughout the investigation.

when she is 19 year old, she discovers that she is pregnant.she considers abortion but ultimately choose to keep the baby.

January 31, 2006

the police have received several tips  about the 10 year old boy  who disappeared sunday afternoon from a  parking lot at a shooping center in the gothenburg area.

the police immediately suspect something is wrong when bobby is reported missing  in  Gothenburg.his mother is completely passive and does  not seem worried about her son.

a police patrol goes out to the lonely cottage in småland where the stepfather lives .they break in with orders to  check if bobby is in the house,  dead or alive.

the sight that greated the  police in this house  was actually quite  sad.

the house itself is a pretty big mess. you wondered how you could live in this house and  especially  have chldren in it.

bobby is not in the cottage ,the police are now mapping th route to the shopping center in detail. surveillance footage from a  gas station where they stopped on the road shows the stepfather . but  not  bobby.

it has now been two weeks since  the disappearance . on valentine’s day, the prosecutor decides to take action.

they gathered some distance from this place and then they did a joint operation and went in and woke them up so early  in the morning that they were sleeping and it was completely undramatically moving , but they took them straight to the police station in Gothenburg.

after  high school , the withdrawn boy in norrköping  moved to valdermarsvik,he is now  adult and on surface his life looks  good.

he has a partner and two children.but after a few years he begins to abuse alcohol and his partner takes the children and runs away to  her parent’s  home. 

the man then follows  and tries to break  in  with a pickaxe and crowbar.

he is sentenced to a daily fine and his partner leavies him for good. 

he is feeling very unwell and is increasingly devoting  himself to his fantasies of ruling through sadomasochism.( S&M).

he decides to make his fantasies a reality.

the day bobby comes into the world will be dramatic. he is delivered by emergency cesarean section and remains in an incubator for a months.

the mother become seriously ill and cannot breastfeed. she suffers  from severe anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

she says eatrly on as if bobby is like a brother , not her son .

soon, doctors are able to determine that bobby  suffers from a developmental disorder called fragil X. a typical symptom is extreme shyness.

but when he is in a safe environment ,bobby is happy  to play.this is a video  that his aunt’s  family recorded on new year’s day w hen bobby was three and  a half.

bobby’s mother now lives alone in Stenungsund ,she gets a job at samhall but continue to dream of finding a man  to live with.she writes poems about her many loves.

two people , a man and a woman , have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 10 year old boy in Gothenburg who has been missing since january 29..

these interrogations are held just hours after the couple was arrested in the cottage in  småland. the police know that a detention hearing must be held soon and  that any information that comes in could be crucial.

We are now working intensively to gain recognition. acquaintances of the mother have testified that bobby would never want to wait in a car alone.

for the police, work  is now beginning on an investigation that would  ultimately unclude 4,000 pages and 30 hours videotaped interrogations .

the mother’s interrogator puts a  lot of effort into building a trusting relationship .

the close relationship between the women will be of crucial importance.

on february 17, three days after their arrest, they had to be brought before a remand court.  it will then be determined whether the  suspicions are true ,even though the couple still denies it.

time is running out….

in the spring of 2003 , the man rented this croft in the smålänska highlands.it has been abandoned for decades and lacks of toalet and running water.

he has just served his sentence for the abuse of maria and åsa . but he quickly gains a reputation for being a troublemaker.

one of the very few who got to know him was his closest neighbor anders nicolini.

girls became something  they talked about  a lot together.

 ander’s neighbor wins  the competition on a telephone date line .he gets to know a single woman who shows great interest in him.

för bobby’s mother ,it’s a dream come true. the man on the phone line is exactly the kind  of person she’s fantasized about  since she was a little girl.

he claims to  be a wealthy farmer and owns a large farm in småland.

she now writes in her notebook about how she feels uncomfortable in stenungssund,the only help she gets from social services is a support family who takes care of bobby one week every five  weeks.

she finds it difficult and she sees the chance  for a better future.

but the man also talks about his interest in   S&M .

the man  asked bobby’s mother to fantasize about  a sex story with elements of torture and  she recorded it on her cell phone.

the phone calls are becoming more frequent. finally,the man goes to stenungssund.they decide to meet at the bus station and annika i s there when they meet.

bobby’s mother falls for the man  and  bets everything.

she leaves stenungssund and moves to the cottage in småland.but she didn’t tell the municipality or the support family. when socail services learn that she has moved, the staff calls her and asks if  she wants to maitain contact with the fosterfamily.

when she says no,social services close the case.

the help with support family is a completely voluntary effort according to LSS the act  on support and service for certain disabled persons. on a note, she now writes that bobby can come with her to småland whether he wants to or not.

she braks with her supportive family and now the only real opportunity for insight into bobby’s life for someone outside thefamily disapears.

no one knows whats’ going on in the cottages in småland…..

prosecutor eric handmark was tight- lipped today about exactly what evidence he has against couple.

late afternoon of february 16th, there is less than a day  left until te detention hearing.

still no one has confessed,but bobby’s mother is now calling from her cell and saying she has something she wants to tell.

bobby’s mother is now telling is a completely new story. bobby hasn’t disappeared at the shopping center in bäckebol.he was never even there.

and she says she knows exactly where bobby is.

it’s the morning   after the interrogation.only hours left until the  detention hearing.

on the way from the cell in Gothenburg to  the hearing in in Eksjö district court ,the investigators stop at lovsjön outside jönköping.

she pointed out the location within a couple of meters.

they took personel there from the coast guard in  Gothenburg with divers and stuff and it was  pretty hard work out  on the ice there . and  a terribly cold and windy day .

february 17 2006

mother of  the ten year old boy  who disappeared in Gothenburg and her  partner were remanded in custody today by the Eksjö district court.

both  are suspected , on probable grounds,of murdering the boy at home on the farm south of jönköping.

and despite extensive investigations at the family farm ,the boy has not been found there. and this afternoon, divers  have been investigating a lake.

just south of jönköping following a top. but the police don’t want’ to say what happened.

it is now clear that the couple have lied and  that bobby is dead.

the police are now carrying out  a series of reconstructions in the  croft.  a police officer gets to play the tole of the stepfather when  the mother tells her version of what happened.

a doll  can be bobby.

what is now unfolding in in fron of the police video cameras is completely incomprehensible to most people.

what we show  are only short snippets.

….and tell him to smell .

but the stepfather denies ever having hurt bobby .he sustained the injuries from falling down the stairs or from blows from his mother .

he saysthe police  are treating him unfairly just as they did in the  rape investigation six years  earlier.

but above all ,he gives the impression that bobby’s mother had a bad relationship with her son and that  she  herself is the one who abused  bobby.

in the first interrogations , the mother is anxious about not having her stepfather by her side. in the interrogations , both blame each other.

but with one crucial difference.the mother  admits that  she herself participated in the assault.

“Have you used any other force, that is, used the cutting tool?”

” i wasforced to use or hold a vacuum cleaner”

” Then he says it should be there on the penis”

“that I’m going to take my…(vacuum) this one and grab it and bring it there.”

 bobby attended the handskerydsskolan here in nässjö after moving to småland.

just like at all schools , the staff here  have an obligation to report to  social services if they suspect that a child  is being harmed.

how the school acted in the bobby case ,there is not anything to indicate that the staff did anything wrong.bobby  , on the contrary, made great progress and showed  no particular signs  of having problems .

he appeared safe and sound  until one day just before christmas break.

sick leave will be transferred to chirstmas vacation.the punishments against bobby gradually develop into torture.

in one case  he has been taped to the bed and then he had pooped on himself.

as punishment,he gets his underwear taped with poop on his face.

he hets to sit there for a while . the mother doesn’t know  how long.but then he is carried up to the bedroom.

he has been taped to the bed itself and has to lie there all night.

an evening in januaryt ,anders knocked  on the stepfather to borrow something. he then saw bobby sitting in the kitchen .

the torture had probably been going on for weeks now.

“he was sitting with his arms crossed like this at the kitchen table and then he looked at me  quickly  and then  he looked down at the table again. he  doesn’t ant to make eye  contact and stuff.”

it will be the last time anyone outside sees bobby in his life.

the situation in the croft is now changing  rapidly.the stepfather becomes  unemployed and both start drinking practically around the clock.

both mother and stepfather have  to show the police what happened that last night…..

then he shovels snow from thre onto bobby so that his enitre body is covered  except for his head.but according to the  stepfather , the background is a devastating argument between the mother and bobby.

“your’e going to get out ,your bastard…”

he says he want to avoid the argument getting out of control…

therefore,he helps carry bobby out.she’s  tearing into bobby  so he’s going to go big .without he’s  clogs.the stepfather says.

both say that bobby was forced to lie out in the snow.

then th versions diverge.the stepfather  says that bobby went to bed…

but th mother describes how a severely chilled bobby is taped to a chair and made to sit in front of the stove.

finally ,the couple leads bobby up the stais to his roomand they  throwing him away onto the bed. he is already weak  and now has little time left. to live.

the couple then leave bobby who is probably already half unconscious.later that evening ,they discover that something is not right….

but ther resuscitation attempts  were in vain. bobby died in a dirty bed in  a cottage in småland,suffocated by his own vomit.

the painful truth that emerges in the investigation is that bobby’s own mother is not just showing grief.

the mother is now starting to plan for a new future together with the stepfather.

but he is filled with anxiety. he gets in the car with the mother and drives along the east coast.bobby’s body is in the back seat.

he seems to be driving  completely aimlessly but he is getting closer and closer to his childhood summer home .

he says he is looking for some kind of security there .but he can’t find it.

june 7 ,2006

today , 10 year old  bobby was buried at norum  cemetery in stenungssund. 

the swedish people had donated over 29 , 000 roses to bobby’s funeral.

bobby, with his disablility ,had no chance whatsoever to defend  himself.

we will never know how he experienced the torture.he became a victim of the forces set in motion when two broken people  met.

a powerfuless boy who turns into a sadistic ruler and a bullied ,unhappy  girl who was prepared to sacrifice everything for love.

The Eksjö District Court’s verdict in the case came on 9 June 2006. The defendants were both sentenced to ten years in prison for, among other things, aggravated assault, aggravated manslaughter and breach of the peace.

They were not convicted of murder as the prosecutor had claimed, because the court did not find it proven that they had been indifferent to Bobby’s death.

The mother’s partner appealed the verdict because he thought the court had placed too much faith in the woman’s story. On 5 September, the Göta Court of Appeal upheld the district court’s verdict of 10 years in prison for both.

On June 7, 2012, the woman was released from Hinseberg Prison and both she and her partner were released completely in October 2012.

After his release, Eddy has been suspected of child pornography crimes, among other things. Nina met a new man and had a new child who was immediately taken into care by the authorities.

Eddy, who later changed his name to Carl, died of unknown causes in December 2023.

Nina äikiä has also changed her name and today lives a secluded life in an unknown location.
