In March 2023, the quiet Florida town of Canaveral Groves was rocked by a brutal crime. Domenico Gigante, a 36-year-old father, entered a home in the dead of night—and executed his teenage daughter, her mother, grandmother, and another man.
Gigante pleaded guilty on Thursday to first-degree premeditated murder, ad one count of armed burglary of a dwelling with a firearm inflicting death, according to law enforcement.
Acting as his own attorney after dropping his public defender in July, Gigante waived his right to a jury trial and a jury penalty proceeding before he entered the guilty plea this week.
“The state doesn’t need to prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt. I’m guilty, and I meet the aggravating factors. I have no interest in appealing,” he told Circuit Judge Laura Moody.
“My end goal here is to take full accountability. I know what I did was evil and wrong. I’m here on my knees… and for justice to be served for those affected by what I have done.”
Prosecutors continue to seek the death penalty against Gigante. As he has waived his right to a jury trial, Judge Moody will ultimately decide whether the killer should be put to death.
This decision is expected to be made at a hearing scheduled for late October or early November,
where Judge Moody will announce Gigante’s fate.
